My Cars

I have always loved custom cars, so it is only natural that I have built several of them. Probably the most well known of these is my 1997 GTI VR6. It has undergone several transformations from being an SPL competitor (1st place in IASCA Alaska state finals div.3 in 1999) to it's current state of being----pretty much race only. If all goes well, it will be running some pretty low et's at the track this summer. My best so far on is a 13.70 with an untuned ATP turbo kit. My best ever top speed before the turbo was 147 mph (for which I was severely fined by the Nenana Police Chief). Pretty sure we would have hit 150+ if not for the red and blue lights up ahead. This was with two people in the car, full interior, luggage, spare, stereo system,etc.. I managed to bury the needle after the turbo. Anything over 160 mph is pretty scary on a public highway.

I also finished up a 1993 Nissan lowrider that is my (ex) wifes daily driver. We bought the truck from a friend that had already started customizing it but had to tell due to divorce. It has a custom tweed interior with flamed door panels, custom lowering, billet grille, h-4 headlight upgrade, front and rear roll pans, lexan back window with frenched in license plate, color matched front bumper with billet inserts, flamed billet rearview mirror, and a full on custom stereo installed by me. It is currently waiting for the snow to go away so we can put our 20" Boss wheels on it.

My daily driver was a 2001 GTI VR6 that is mildly modded with a Projektzwo full body kit and grille, Kamai eyebrows, H&R lowering springs and struts, a self built custom intake, tinted glass, and a competition stereo system. It has seen the track once and ran a 14.78 et. in Palmer Alaska. I sold it due to divorce.

The last on my list is our 1983 Chevy Silverado.....we will save that for another time.

Keeping Your Car Cool

Did you know that in 95 degree heat, the air in your car reaches approximately 146 degrees and the steering wheel can reach 158 degrees? So what can you do about it? First, you can tint your car windows. Clear glass magnifies the sun and intensifies the heat. If that's too expensive, buy manual sunshades. They come in cheap cardboard or reflective material. You can also buy shades for the back side windows where your kids are. To avoid hot steering wheels, put a towel over the wheel to absorb sun while your car sits.

Washing and Waxing Tips

Most cars now come with a clearcoat finish, which tricks owners into thinking they don't need wax. Actually, you should wax your car 3-4 times a year. Most manufacturers also recommend washing your car once a week. Remember to start washing your car only when the car's surface is cool and only after rinsing the entire car. Rub gently, one section at a time, and use specific car wash products--never household cleaners. After rinsing your car well, dry it with a soft, clean cloth.
